The focus of Six Sigma is to streamline the business process and to eliminate as much mistakes as possible. In this process several processes are monitored and refined over a time. The employees’ moral is boosted and lots of money is saved. But what if its too late when a company starts to implement Six Sigma. Though its never too late, but there are some processes in industry which can not be modified or modified very little because of inherent design problems. Or it can take too much of time to bring expected results. Then its difficult for Six Sigma to bring those benefits which the concept claims and in fact has brought to many.
If its possible to start earlier at the time of process designing, the scope will be 100 percent. Here a new concept works. That is Design For Six Sigma(DFSS). DFSS is an effort to start any process from scratch, so making it virtually error free in the times to come. The reason is simple, because implementing Six Sigma in initial phase is really easy. And a brand new efficient design is always better than old one but patched up so many times. Designing For Six Sigma brings positive, sustained and up to the expectation results.
Here are some of the benefits of Designing For Six Sigma:
-
DFSS leads to Innovation.
-
Lots of after marketing cost is saved.
-
The processes become really faster.
-
Since everybody is involved in the process, so in case any problems occur at later stage problem solving is easy.
-
It can lead to cost effective, error-free overnight delivery system.
Some of the the ideas have been taken from “Design For Six Sigma†by Subir Chowdhury. The book is based on idea of how to turn Six Sigma process into break through performance.
