I don’t know where Google shall stop, but the speed and momentum it’s moving with is huge and admirable. Every now and then you come to know of something new and unique, Google has done. That’s separate thing whether its search engine, Picasa, Google Earth, Chrome, Gmail or any other software application, Google is rocking.

First Google launched Android as operating system and software platform for mobile devices. Now it’s planning to come as desktop operating system too.

Google developed Android as OS for mobile devices which is based on Linux kernel. It was created by Andy Rubin, the senior Director, Google. Businessweek.com says, Hewlett-Packard(HP)  is studying Android operating system to determine whether the software will be able to work well on HP’s systems.

If Hewlett-Packard, the world’s biggest PC maker, were to install Google’s operating system on netbooks, Microsoft Windows could face strong competition

Move over, Microsoft. Hewlett-Packard may give Google the entrée it needs to provide the go-to operating system for new lines of mass-market notebook computers.

No. 1 PC maker Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) is “studying” Google’s (GOOG) Android operating system to determine whether the software might work well on HP’s own computers, says HP spokeswoman Marlene Somsak. The company is evaluating Android’s computing and communications functions, she says, though she declined to say whether HP would ship Android-powered products.

The obvious plus point for Android promotion is that the, Google is really trying to make it a huge success. The obvious applications of this software are:

  1. Use in set-top boxes.
  2. In-car navigation systems.
  3. Mobile devices.
  4. Desktop OS.

The result could be “Google-ready” devices equipped to expeditiously run the company’s applications, says Rubin. So an Android-powered set-top box could deliver YouTube videos to a television without running the risk of being superseded by another application. “That’s the Netscape analogy: Let’s not become blocked by someone else,” he says.

Google’s reach across the Internet is broad. Now it’s taking steps to link its Web software to more of the computers people interact with on a daily basis.

A brief summary about Android:

  1. What it is: Operating System.
  2. Company: Google.
  3. Creator: Andy Rubin, the senior directory, Google.
  4. Based on:  Linux kernel.
  5. Uses: As desktop OS, Mobile OS, Navigation system and in Set-top box.

HP Is ‘Studying’ Android for PC Use (Sincere Thanks Businessweek.com)
