Our daily wear or occasional clothes can get every now and then, while eating, drinking or just, without our knowing it! Sometimes the stains are so strong that they always stay there, leaving us with no option other than to discard the cloth. Here we are presenting some tips, to be published in series, to remove some of the common stains, and thus preserve your favorite dress :

Alcoholic Beverages : In case of stains of alcoholic beverages like beer, whiskey etc., first of all soak the fabric in cold water for 30 minutes , and then pretreat with a prewash stain remover, followed by washing in chlorine bleach added water.

Juice or Sauce : To remove a juice or sauce fabric stain, First of all flush it under cold running water. After that, launder it using the warmest water and the type of bleach that’s safe for the fabric.

Ashes : In case of a stain caused by cigarette ash, pretreat with a prewash stain remover and lauder using the warmest water and the type of bleach that is safe for the fabric. If the stain still remains, sponge with rubbing alcohol and wash again.

Baby Oil : In case of stains caused by baby oil, pretreat with a prewash stain remover, and then launder using the hottest water safe for the fabric.

Washing white clothes : White clothes need special care than other fabrics, so they need to be mentioned separately. Here are few points you must keep in mind while washing the white clothes:

Use the hottest water the fabric can withstand. Do look at the instructions on the garment’s care label.

Avoid washing whites with colored clothes.

Using too much detergent can lead to unwanted deposits. So rinse your clothes properly.

If your water is hard, i.e. , the soap does not lather well, its mineral content is likely to settle on the clothes. An easy way to soften the water is to add ½ cup of white vinegar to the water used for the last rinse.

Chlorine bleach can discolor your whites and weaken their fabric. Try adding 250 gm of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide to your wash. Or add ½ cup of lemon juice to the last rinse of water.

For dirty rings around the collars of a shirt, apply some shampoo over the area and rub it with a small nail brush before washing.

Dry pure cotton whites in the sun, they will acquire the brightest shine.
